Our Beliefs

At Oak Island We Believe in the following:

Trinity (God in three persons)
God eternally exists in three distinct persons (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit) each of Whom is fully and equally God; possesses all of the divine nature and attributes, and is totally worthy of our worship and service (Deut. 6:4Matt. 28:19John 1:14John 10:302 Cor. 13:14).

God

God is the creator of the whole universe. He is the eternal, unchanging, all-powerful, all-knowing, all-wise, all-loving, completely just and perfectly holy, sovereign Ruler and Sustainer of life. He is the Father of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and the Father of all true believers (Gen. 1:1Eph. 4:6John 1:12-13John 5:19-21John 17:1-5Isa. 40:21-28Isa. 43:10-13Isa. 46:8-11Rom. 8:14-16).

Jesus

We believe Jesus Christ the Son of God who became flesh conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. He lived a sinless life and was crucified on the cross. This great sacrifice was to pay for our sins. By His death, He reconciled those who believe in Him with God, and through His sacrifice, He opened a way back to the Father for those who follow Him. He arose bodily from the dead and this declares that death no longer has power on those who believe in Jesus Christ. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father, and will come back to judge the living and the dead. (John 1:1,14,18; John 3:16Luke 1:30-35Phil. 2:5-8Col. 2:3,9Mark 10:45Acts 2:22-24John 1:29Rom. 3:25-26Heb. 10:5-14; 1 Pet. 2:24, 1 Pet. 3:18; John 20:20Phil. 3:20-21Heb. 1:3Rom. 8:341 John 2:1Acts 1:11Heb. 9:28; 1 Thes. 4:13-18; 2 Thes. 2:7; Matt. 24:44Rev. 19:11-21; Rev. 21-22).

Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit reveals and glorifies God and applies the saving work of Christ to individuals. He convicts and draws sinners to Christ, imparts new life to them, indwells in the hearts of the believers. He regenerates sinners, guides and equips, and empowers believers to live a life free from sin’s dominion. The Holy Spirit also gives spiritual gifts to spiritual gifts to believers for the purpose of edifying the church in accordance with the teachings of scripture (Acts 2, 1 Cor. 13:8, 1 Cor. 14:22John 16:7-81 Cor. 6:19, 1 Cor. 12:13Eph. 1:13-14Eph. 4:30Gal. 5:16-17, Gal. 22-23; Rom. 8:5-13; 1 Pet. 4:10-11; Rom. 12:3-8).

Bible

The Bible is God’s infallible written Word, the 66 books of the Old and New Testaments. We believe that it was uniquely, verbally, and fully inspired by the Holy Spirit. It is the supreme and final authority in all matters of faith and life. (2 Tim 3:16-17)

Church

Believers are called to live in the power of the indwelling Spirit that they will not fulfill the lust of the flesh but will bear fruit to the glory of God. The church is the body of Christ of which He is the head where all people are joined together to worship and glorify God. The church is commanded to love God and its neighbors. Living out our faith means serving all God’s people and especially the poor, oppressed, neglected, and afflicted. The body of Christ is to combat the spiritual forces of evil with the living Word of God, power of the Holy Spirit, and victory of Jesus Christ. In obedience to Christ’s commission, we are to make disciples among all people, always bearing witness to the gospel in word and deed. (Acts 1:81 Cor. 12:12-27Eph. 1:20-23Eph. 4:1-6Eph. 4:12-16Matt. 28:18-20; John 17; Col. 1:24-29)
